David's Story...

"My family was never the perfect family. My dad, he was very abusive toward me...if I never met the Youth for Christ staff I'd be locked up right now."

One year ago David was in Remann Hall, heavily using marijuana, and not wanting help.  He began attending the chapel services in lock up just to "get out of my cell" and met Darrin Miller, YFC Youth Guidance Director.  After some time, David understood his need for a fresh start with Jesus Christ and surrendered his life to Christ.

Since being released from juvenile hall, life hasn't been all roses for David. He's struggled but Darrin continued to stay in touch, take him to job interviews and even find a home for him to live.  "Since I met Jesus he's given me the strength to quit smoking pot, get a job and find new friends."

David has new life because someone believed in him and shared the life changing message of Jesus' redeeming love.David now has a church family to support him and is working towards his G.E.D.  His former probation officer said it best, "David has real potential and I've seen the difference YFC staff have made by investing in his life.  The sky's the limit with David."

Youth Guidance is the ministry of Youth for Christ that works with at-risk young people that are often outside the scope and reach of mainstream ministry. Whether at the skate park, in the neighborhood or at the juvenile detention facility YFC believes in the power of connecting these hurting young people with caring Christian adults.

With over 25 years of experience in Remann Hall, Pierce County's juvenile detention facility, YFC staff and volunteers show God's love and hope to institutionalized youth through chapel services, Bible studies, counseling, long term follow-up and social skills instruction. We have a female chaplain (Charlotte Lute), male chaplain & YG Director (Darrin Miller) and nearly 30 volunteers who spend many hours investing in young lives.

Recently, Tacoma YFC started a Friday night drop-in on Tacoma's Hilltop community in collaboration with several local churches and Metro Parks.  Over 150 young people show up each week for a great meal, Bible study and worship and then open gym, crafts, mixing (music), weightlifting and more.  Our staff and volunteers are committed to reaching the "hardest" kids who normally wouldn't seek out positive choices.
