Doug Jonson

Hilltop Ministry Director

Doug Jonson grew up in Stanwood, WA his entire life. He was raised in the church, but never really had a personal relationship with God. When he was in high school, he attended a summer camp and understood for the first time that God wanted to have a personal relationship with him, and that there was so much more to being a Christian than being a good person and staying out of trouble. Although wanting that intimacy with Christ, he wasn’t able to fully surrender all areas of his life to God until his senior year of high school. After returning home from a biking ministry in Minnesota, Doug realized that his life was purposeless and empty without living fully and solely for God. It was at that point that he decided to follow Christ.

Doug and Amy both have backgrounds working in social services, but Doug found his niche working as a corporate headhunter for senior-level software/hardware engineers. In September 2006, God called Doug to leave corporate sales to pursue full-time ministry and to invest in their Hilltop community in which they live. They helped start Sozo, which is an urban youth outreach geared toward sharing the love of Jesus Christ, and developing kids to become fully devoted followers of Christ.

Doug continues to minister to youth through Tacoma YFC’s City Life’s Sozo and Late Night programs, and is responsible for a lot of the administration and planning for Sozo, camps, and other events. He and his wife started an elementary-aged Late Night program called Sozo Kids, and Doug continues to be involved with this.

Doug and Amy have a beautiful daughter, Lucy who was born in October 2006, and a son named Toby who will be born in December 2008. They currently reside in the Hilltop community of Tacoma, and plan on staying in the community long-term.
