Mission

Why do we exist?

Because Pierce County is filled with thousands of hurting kids and families. Voiceless overlooked, and in need of hope for a brighter future.

In Pierce County:

  • Nearly 1 in 5 Middle School youth considered suicide in the last year
  • Nearly half of all teens are growing up without a father
  • 1 in 3 girls will become pregnant before turning 20
  • Estimates of self-harm among teenagers reach up to nearly 1 in 5
  • Stigma against the Foster Care system tells a story of kids with no future
  • Children in Foster Care are being put up in hotel rooms or placed hundreds of miles away because there are not enough foster families

Vision and Mission

Our vision is to have a noticeable spiritual impact on Pierce County by engaging young people in the life long journey of following Jesus Christ.

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement.

Stewardship

At Tacoma Area YFC we take seriously your investment in young people through this ministry.  Our greatest desire is that, through your partnership with YFC, you will grow in your relationship with God and stewardship of the resources he has entrusted to you.  To learn more about what TYFC believes regarding your giving our commitment to you, please click on this link for TYFC's Stewardship and Development Standards.

History

Billy Graham became YFC's first full time employee.

In 1944 Billy Graham and Torrey Johnson held a Youth for Christ rally in Chicago. The ministry of YFC spread like wildfire across the US. As YFC was forming into an international organization, Tacoma was one of the founding chapters. The founding motto of YFC is as true to today as it was when it was coined "Anchored to the Rock and geared to the times." YFC has never veered from its commitment to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to lost and hurting young people. Tacoma has been a pioneer in ministry throughout its history. We were working with troubled teens before the national movement had embraced that kind of work.
