Meet our Community Directory, Timothy Chavira! Timothy joins our YFC staff with several years of volunteer experience in Remann Hall through the Juvenile Justice Ministry. He has a pastoral and shepherding heart, strong experience leading teams, and asks the best questions, his curious mind always at work. Tim has a vision for new opportunities through JJM and Parent Life.
He’s also just, like, really cool.
We asked him a bit about his life and new role at YFC. Here’s what he had to say:
What are you excited about in your new role?
Timothy: For one, I am excited to now lead a ministry I have loved being part of as a volunteer. I began serving with the Remann Hall team back in early 2019. As well, an added bonus is now getting to support our amazing Parent Life and One80 Mentor directors. As I look to the future, I want to help steward the legacy God has given us and, as a team, dream up the possibilities God might have for us in the future.
Why YFC?
Timothy: I greatly value their submission to the authority of scripture, their emphasis on relational discipleship, their priority of prayer, and their ongoing participation in seeking justice for the youth of our communities. Particularly those young people who are marginalized and often considered to be outcasts. They are equipping leaders to seek after the lost; by entering their world, loving them where they are, helping them to understand their culture, and are helping them contextualize the gospel both in word and deed.
What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
Timothy: That one is hard to answer because I’ve read a few. I would have to say my latest favorites have been The Deeply Formed Life by Rich Villodas, Reading While Black by Esau Mccaulley, and Pastor Paul by Scot McKnight.
Besides Jesus, your family, etc., what’s something you love/are passionate about? Or a hobby you have?
Timothy: I enjoy art, culture, music, fishing, and working on old cars. I’m currently building a 1960 Chevy Impala lowrider for my family. I needed something that would fit everyone.
Is a hot dog a sandwich?
Timothy: It’s definitely not a Taco.
See? He might be the coolest guy we know! Timothy’s role allows for greater focus on new opportunities in both Parent Life and Juvenile Justice Ministry. Expanding ministry options through JJM to meet the needs of kids in diversion and aftercare settings is already in the works. Having Timothy as the Community Director to encourage and shepherd these staff is increasing our ministry depth at each site. Taking care of our leaders is primary and Parent Life and JJM are in good hands!
