There are things we can do for young people, and there are things only God can do in them. That’s the line we live on every day at Tacoma YFC. We can show up. We can stay. We can build relationships one slow, faithful Tuesday at a time. But the transformation that actually changes a life’s trajectory? That belongs to Jesus. Which means prayer isn’t a support role in this work. It’s the work.
Scripture is clear about what we’re really up against. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12) The young people we walk with aren’t just navigating hard circumstances. Some of what they carry is spiritual — shame, despair, and lies that have felt like facts for a long time. That takes more than programs. It takes intercession.
When you join the Tacoma YFC prayer team, you’re not signing up for a newsletter. You’re standing in the gap for students in detention facilities, in alternative schools, in teen parent programs, and in the unseen spaces where young people are quietly slipping through the cracks. You’re praying for staff who pour out week after week. You’re agreeing in faith that Pierce County can look different — and that hope is worth carrying all the way through.
Jesus promised it: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 18:19)
We believe that. And we need people who believe it with us.
