“Priceless.”
That’s what one mom said about the classic carnival put on by the Tacoma Rescue Mission City Life Site. Her kids were stepping away from technology and screens and having fun in real-time with real people, playing the same games she had played as a kid.
Site leader Lawrence Ford and a team of volunteers from organizations like The Travis Manion Foundation, Discovery Community Church, The Tacoma Rescue Mission, and our YFC family put together a day full of all the carnival fun you’d imagine: face painting, a photo booth, free ice cream, burgers and hotdogs, and a seemingly endless amount of games with a variety of prizes.
Kids played games like Giant Connect 4 and Giant Jenga, Ping Pong Toss, Plinko, Corn Hole, Can Toss, Hula Hoop Hurl, and more. Prizes ranged from fun (and delicious!) like candy, soda, and stuffed animals (like a giant, person-sized Teddy bear), to practical like blankets and backpacks. Twenty-seven blankets total went home with kids who now have a warm place to snuggle. Lawrence and the team even filled up 240 water balloons. Kids earned those balloons as their Plinko prize and then water bombed Lawrence!
Take a look at some of the fun:
