Daniel* marches to his own beat. He’s loud, fun, and full of imagination. As a middle-schooler, he engages well with other kids and adults, loves electronics and games, and carries a Marxist handbook everywhere he goes. He has also said over and over that he does not believe in God and his Campus Life leaders always make sure he’s welcome no matter what.
Then his dad said he couldn’t come to Campus Life Club anymore. It was too religious. Leaders still saw Daniel on campus daily and their relationships stayed open and friendly even though he hadn’t been to Club in several months
Then, in April, Campus Life Leaders got a surprise. Daniel’s registration for YFC Camp came through online!
Daniel attended Middle School Camp in July and brought all his quirks and big personality with him. He had incredible amounts of fun, built strong relationships, and had the opportunity to hear about the hope of Jesus. He was in a cabin with other kids from his school and Ryan, a Leader he already knew from Campus Life.
On the second night of Camp, Daniel turned to a leader and asked, “Do you believe and follow this Jesus Christ?” The leader was able to share his story with Daniel, who loved hearing it. He said he was seriously considering accepting Jesus himself.
Every kid who goes to YFC Camp has a leader to walk alongside them when they return home. Daniel didn’t give his life to Jesus at Camp, but he’s warming up to the idea of that relationship. Ryan and the Campus Life team is with him for the journey.
He’s still connected to YFC leaders at his middle school, still coming to Club regularly, and we have every hope we’ll see him at Camp again this summer.
Building trusting, transformational relationships takes time and our team is committed to walking with Daniel through whatever ups and downs come his way.
