Everybody’s tired of Covid. Not just the virus, but the way it’s changed the way of life for everyone. We have all been dramatically impacted by Covid-19. At a time where social interaction is a developmental need, teens are forced into isolation. Not only do they have to spend all day at “school” alone staring at computer screens, but they’ve had to give up sports, special trips, and milestone social events like Homecoming and Prom.
Everyone feels isolated.
Now imagine being 16 years old, experiencing this same isolation…but you also have a kid.
Teen moms always feel alone as they’re trying to navigate motherhood for the first time. Many of their friends stop reaching out to them because they don’t know how to interact with their old friend who has now become a mother.
But with every problem comes great opportunity! We have a powerful ministry called Parent Life, that reaches expectant and parenting teens through intentional relationships with caring adults. We meet our teens where they’re at, mentor them, and engage them in the lifelong journey of following Jesus.
Right now, more than ever, our expectant and parenting teens are craving fellowship and relationship. They want an older adult who will walk alongside them and be there for them. They are hungry for people to share life with them, listen to them, and join them on their journey toward Jesus.
We currently have more expectant and parenting teens who want to be mentored than we have the capacity for. In other words, we need more volunteers who are willing to spend a couple of hours every 1-2 weeks with these teens, offering love, humble listening ears, and hope.
This is an opportunity to change someone’s life! But I’m not just talking about the expectant and parenting teens – I’m talking about you! As you join these teens on their journey, they will show you a different side of God the Father’s heart. They will give you a different perspective of the world that you had never seen or known, will challenge the way you think, and they will also teach you about life and God – if you are humble enough to learn and love freely.
You don’t have to have been a teen mom to connect with our young parents! We are looking for young folks, old folks, married couples, or single folks who are willing to spend time with these teen couples who are trying to navigate this parenting journey.
Will you consider being part of this journey?
